Marianne Fraser, 32, was in a joyful baby bubble after the birth of her son Soren in December 2022 with her husband Liam, 25, a musician. But on New Year’s Eve, she walked in to find Liam after he had tragically taken his own life. “I found him while holding Soren,” Marianne, a primary school teacher and musician from the Scottish Highlands, shared. “I still have gaps in my memory from that moment. I was so distraught that I had to go back to the hospital for a few days.”
A Joyous Birth Followed By Sudden Tragedy
Devastated, Marianne was readmitted to the hospital with Soren, unable to eat due to the grief. When she returned home, the police handed her Liam’s phone, and a brief glance through it turned her world upside down.
Navigating Grief While Caring For A Newborn
She found evidence that Liam had been unfaithful during their marriage, including text messages and a gift card. Heartbroken, Marianne channeled all her energy into caring for her son and making music. Now, with her new album set to release, she plans to travel through Southeast Asia with Soren, who is now 19 months old.
When Marianne got Liam’s phone and clothes back from the police, she discovered evidence of his affair. “I found phone calls to someone while I was in labor,” Marianne explained. “It was a blow after blow. I kept thinking I was going to wake up from some post-birth painkiller haze.”

Despite the shock of the revelations, Marianne now feels that knowing the truth has brought some closure. “I’m glad I found out. I believe knowing the truth helped me find some kind of closure,” she said, describing the complicated feelings she experienced upon learning about her husband’s infidelity.
