In a shocking turn of events, Kristie Pereira, a woman from San Antonio, learned that her dog, Beau, whom she had believed was euthanized, was alive and available for adoption at a shelter. The revelation left her both heartbroken and confused.
Last year, after her puppy Beau, a 2-month-old hound mix, began suffering from severe health issues, Kristie made the difficult decision to euthanize him. After several consultations with veterinarians and the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, where Kristie had adopted Beau from, she was advised that euthanasia might be the most compassionate option.

In March 2023, Kristie took Beau to Montgomery County Animal Services in Maryland for euthanasia. However, a year later, while visiting Maryland, Kristie was horrified to find Beau listed for adoption on the shelter’s website, now going by the name “Amos Hart.”

Upon contacting the rescue, she learned that the shelter had reassessed Beau’s condition and found no neurological issues. Instead, Beau had received treatment for a liver issue and even undergone surgery, funded by donations. Kristie, devastated by the news, offered to pay for the surgery herself and bring Beau home, but the shelter refused her request, stating that once a pet is surrendered, they are not returned to previous owners.

The story has stirred emotions, with many questioning the decision-making process at the shelter. While the rescue defended its actions, claiming its mission is to save adoptable dogs from euthanasia, Kristie’s painful journey continues, leaving her questioning what happened to her beloved pet.
