In a 1981 interview with Playboy, Bach reflected on how the couple initially navigated media scrutiny and her own surprise at falling in love again. We both shared the same outlook — neither of us planned to marry again,” she said. “Richard already had three children, aged 10 to 13. Honestly, I never thought I’d be so lucky to fall in love so deeply that I’d want to go through it all over again. My family was shocked.”They married in London in 1981 and have been inseparable ever since.
Bach and Starr first connected while filming Caveman in 1980, where they played love interests. Starr later admitted he was smitten the moment he saw Bach arrive at the Los Angeles airport, even though they were both involved with other people at the time. In her Playboy interview, Bach recalled how their connection deepened over time. “A lot of nonsense has been written about us, none of it true or interesting,” she said. “The truth is, we didn’t get together until the very end of Caveman. We worked well together but had other relationships. Then, in the final week of shooting, everything changed. We went from being friends to falling in love — fast.”
Long before their romance began, Bach saw The Beatles perform at Shea Stadium in 1965. Starr later joked about the connection during a 2017 PEOPLE interview. “Barbara, her sister Marjorie, and Joe [Walsh] were all at Shea Stadium. Joe wanted to marry me but had to settle for my wife’s sister,” Starr said with a laugh. “Marjorie even wore a Beatle wig.” Marjorie eventually married Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh in 2008, bringing the families even close

Although Bach was at the historic Beatles concert, she admitted to PEOPLE in 1981 that it was her sister, not her, who was the real fan. “My sister Marjorie was crazy about The Beatles,” Bach said. “I was more into Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, and The Rolling Stones.” In 1980, Bach and Starr had a terrifying experience when they were involved in a serious car accident. Starr swerved to avoid a truck, hit two light posts, and flipped the car twice. After surviving the crash, the couple made a promise to stick together. “We decided we wouldn’t spend time apart,” Starr said. “The longest we’ve ever been separated was five days — and even that was too long. I want to share every moment with Barbara.
