Constant tiredness is often dismissed as a minor inconvenience, but medical professionals caution that it can be an early indicator of heart failure—a condition where the heart struggles to pump blood effectively.
Cardiologist Dr. James Wetherby emphasizes that persistent fatigue is among the “earliest and most overlooked symptoms” of heart failure. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) notes that heart failure affects bodily functions, including breathing and muscle activity, leading to increased tiredness.

Professor Julia Newton, a consultant geriatrician, explains that for some individuals, this fatigue is constant, while for others, it fluctuates and may be accompanied by brain fog and muscle aches. The BHF advises those experiencing ongoing fatigue or other heart failure symptoms—such as fainting, persistent cough, shortness of breath, or swelling in the lower body—to consult a healthcare professional promptly.
